Antequera and Archidona
Just a short drive from the Costa del Sol, you find these two neighbouring and contrasting hilltop towns. On the hill, overlooking Archidona is one of Andalucía's oldest surviving Mosques, now a Christian chapel dedicated to the local patroness; Our Lady Of Grace. The views from the top are breathtaking. Archidona also has a very unusual town square in an octagonal form where we can observe typical Andalusian village life.
On the neighbouring hill but separated by the legendary Lover ́s Rock or La Peña de los Enamorados is the monumental town of Antequera; The Heart of Andalucia. Having just gained UNESCO status for one of its historical sites, the town is alive and buzzing. Here we enjoy a wonderful lunch in a restaurant dedicated to reviving lost recipes of rural Andalucia.
Oh and we almost forgot...we also pop into an incredible emporium of antiques and collectables hidden in the back roads of the countryside.
